Calculate tube and profile weight

Tubes, box sections and bar stock need a different cross-section calculation than plate. Pick the profile shape, enter the dimensions, and get the weight instantly.

The formulas

Weight always follows the same three steps: cross-section × length × density.

round tube (hollow): cross-section = π × wall thickness × (outer diameter − wall thickness)
rectangular box (hollow): cross-section = width×height − (width−2×wall)×(height−2×wall)
round bar (solid): cross-section = π/4 × diameter²
flat bar (solid): cross-section = width × height

weight (kg) = cross-section (m²) × length (m) × density (kg/m³)

For hollow profiles (tube/box section) only the wall counts, not the hole inside — that's why the wall thickness appears twice (on all four sides for a box section).

Material densities

MaterialDensity
Structural steel (S235/S355)7,850 kg/m³
Stainless steel 304/3168,000 kg/m³
Aluminium (5754/6082)2,700 kg/m³

Standard values for the most common alloys — for a quote we use the exact material data.
